Welcome to Iblis

Welcome! If you are reading this either you've stumbled on it by mistake or you are here to cleanse yourself of those things that you fear. Either way, you are here to iniciate a journey. Ask yourself, what is your bigggest fear? Most people would probably answer death but at the end of the day we are experiencing moments of fear all the time even in the environment where we thought we were safest. Iblis means demon. It is possible that if you p that personify your fears then it is easier to release them. Iblis is a group of 5 demons that although caracterize different types of fear, they enable us to distance ourselves from our anxieties.

What is Iblis?

After researching into fear and the way that we react to it, I decided to focus on how to personalise fear and make it into something more tangible and visual. With ancient mythology as a background I devised 5 demons of fear to represent different types and stages of fear. Using basic sculpture, I recreated what my image of the demons would be. They possess some human features as our personal demons (or fears) are reflections of our inner selves at the end of the day. These sculptures in theory could work almost as an instrument in Art Therapy to help people identify the type of fear or possibly other emotions they are feeling.

Phebus (Terror)

The arch-demon of Fear. He appears when you least expect him. His presence makes you feel weak and vulnerable. Avoid any contact with him by acknowledging the things you fear the most and either accepting or avoiding them.

Incubus (Anxiety)

The demon of dreams. It is impossible to sleep when this demon is around. He whispers your worst nightmares into your ear and you will not rest until the things that haunt you are done.

Balban (Paranoia)

The demon of delusion. Once Balban haunts you, he stays by your side at all times, nagging away at you and aggravating how you feel about yourself and those who surround you.

Verin (Dread)

The demon of time. This demon appears at the build up to a situation. You know that he is there but you try to block him out by turning your attention towards something else. A lack of appetite is usually an indication that Verin is around.

Aldinach (Panic)

The demon of disasters. Aldinach similarly to Phebus generally appears with little warning. His presence can either freeze you or set you into frenzy. Adrenaline is your only weapon against this demon as it will control your body movements if you are incapacitated.
